The Deal Is 'Very Close': How to Handle the Waiting Before a Big Business Decision

This week, one line was everywhere in the news. During talks in Mumbai, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said India and the US are "very, very close" to their trade deal, with only "a small number of items to wrap up."
Two big countries. Months of talks. And still, the last few items are taking time.
If you run a business, you know this feeling very well. The client says "almost done." The partner says "just one more meeting." The investor says "we're very positive." And you wait. You check your phone. You plan, then re-plan.
So let's talk about the waiting. Not with fear, but with understanding. Darr nahi, samajh.
Every big deal has a "last mile"
The start of a deal is exciting. The middle is busy. But the last mile is where most stress lives. Why? Because now there is something real to lose.
In the last mile, people slow down. They read the fine print again. They ask for one small change. To the one waiting, this feels like delay or even rejection. Most of the time, it is neither. It is just care.
The trade deal is a good reminder: even the biggest teams in the world take time on the final few points. Your deal is allowed to take time too.
The SALSA® way to look at any deal
The SALSA® Method of Astrology gives us a simple way to see what is happening:
- Houses are situations. A deal, a partnership, a contract with a client, all of these are situations in your life.
- Planets are behaviours and actions. How you talk, how you push, how patient you are.
- Signs are expectations from the situation. What you hope the deal will give you.
- Transits are modifications in the situation. The changes that come for a while and then move on.
When you see a deal like this, it stops being a mystery. You can ask clear questions: What is the situation? What do I expect from it? How am I behaving? What is changing right now?
Right now: harmony expected, authority walks in
Since 17 October, the Sun is moving through Libra. In the SALSA® Method of Astrology, Libra is the expectation of balance and harmony: "let's both be happy." The Sun brings authority, ego, commanding and politics.
So in the area of life where Libra sits in your chart, you may expect a fair, smooth agreement, while someone in the room wants to be the boss. That is exactly what a big negotiation feels like. Both sides want balance. Both sides also want to win.
This is not bad news. It just tells you what to expect. When you know the other side may need to "look strong," you stop taking it personally. You give them their respect, and you hold on to your terms calmly.
Mercury slows down from 24 October
There is one more change coming. From 24 October to 13 November, Mercury turns retrograde. Mercury is talking, writing, numbers and details.
Again, nothing to fear. This is simply a good time to re-check. Read the contract once more. Confirm the numbers in writing. Go back to that old proposal or that client who went quiet. If something is signed in these weeks, it is not "doomed." Just slow down and check the small details twice.
5 simple ways to handle the waiting
1. Separate the deal from your worth. A "not yet" is about the situation, not about you. Keep your confidence steady.
2. Keep the rest of the business moving. Don't freeze everything for one deal. Serve your other clients. Keep your team busy with real work.
3. Put everything in writing. Every promise, every changed number, every "we'll handle that later." With Mercury slowing down, this matters even more.
4. Know your walk-away point. Before the final meeting, decide what you will not accept. Write it down. Then you negotiate from peace, not panic.
5. Talk to your team honestly. Teams feel the boss's stress. Tell them, in simple words, where things stand and what the plan is if the deal takes longer. Calm leaders build calm teams.
A note for teams and partners
Deals are not signed by one person. Every partner and team member brings their own behaviour into the room. One wants speed. One wants every detail checked. One wants to keep everyone happy.
None of these is wrong. They are just different natures (swabhav). When you understand each person's nature, you can give the right job to the right person: the patient one checks the contract, the bold one makes the call, the friendly one keeps the relationship warm. That is how a team closes a deal without fighting.
Darr nahi, samajh
Waiting is part of every big thing in life: a deal, a job, a marriage proposal, a new home. The waiting feels heavy only when we don't understand it.
Understand the situation. Know what you expect. Watch your own behaviour. Respect the changes of the time. Then, whether the deal closes this week or next month, you will be ready, and you will still be calm.
Start with your own nature
Every good decision starts with knowing yourself. Are you the one who rushes, or the one who waits too long? Do you push hard, or give in too easily?
