Saver or Spender? Why Your Money Nature Matters More Than Your SIP

Saver or spender? Why your money nature matters more than your SIP – SALSA® Method of Astrology

This week, a money idea for young people was being shared everywhere. A Mint article called it the "First Seven Framework." The idea is simple: treat the first seven years of your career as your saving years, start early, and increase your investment a little every year.

The writer said something very honest: "The problem isn't compounding. It's commitment."

We love that line. Because it is true for every age, not just Gen Z. Most of us already know what we should do with money. Save some. Spend with care. Plan for later. The hard part is doing it month after month.

So the real question is not "Which plan is best?" It is "What kind of person am I with money?"

Darr nahi, samajh. Let's understand it.

The plan is the same. People are not.

Give the same SIP plan to five friends. One will follow it for ten years without missing a month. One will stop after three months because "this month is tight." One will move all the money to a hot new tip. One will forget about it. One will check it every single day and get nervous.

Same plan. Different behaviour.

That is why copying someone else's money plan often fails. It was made for their nature, not yours.

The SALSA® way to look at money

The SALSA® Method of Astrology makes this very easy to see:

  • Houses are situations. Your salary, your savings, your business income, your family expenses, these are situations in your life.
  • Planets are behaviours and actions. How you earn, how you spend, how patient you are, how much risk you take.
  • Signs are expectations from the situation. What you want your money to give you: safety, comfort, freedom, respect, growth.
  • Transits are modifications in the situation. Changes that come for some time, like a new job, a big expense or a slow season in business, and then move on.

When you see money like this, it stops being only about numbers. It becomes about behaviour. And behaviour can be understood and improved.

6 money behaviours: which one is strongest in you?

Here are six simple money behaviours, seen through the planets as behaviours. Most people have a mix. One or two usually lead.

1. The Patient Builder (Saturn behaviour). Slow and steady. Happy to save for years. The risk: being so careful that you never enjoy anything, or never take a good chance.

2. The Comfort Lover (Venus behaviour). Loves good food, good clothes, a nice home. Money is for enjoying life. The risk: small comforts every day quietly eating the savings.

3. The Quick Mover (Mars behaviour). Bold. Acts fast. Likes high returns and quick decisions. The risk: jumping into tips and trends without checking.

4. The Mood Spender (Moon behaviour). Spends more when happy, sad or stressed. Shopping feels like a hug. The risk: money decisions changing with feelings.

5. The Calculator (Mercury behaviour). Compares, plans, makes spreadsheets. The risk: planning so much that action never starts.

6. The Growth Seeker (Jupiter behaviour). Thinks big. Wants money to grow and also to do good: family, learning, giving. The risk: promising too much to too many people.

None of these is good or bad. Each one has a strength and a blind spot. When you know yours, you can build a plan that fits you.

Match the plan to your nature

Here are simple ideas that work with your behaviour, not against it:

  • Patient Builder: Your saving is already strong. Now give yourself a small, guilt-free "enjoy" budget every month.
  • Comfort Lover: Save first, on salary day, before you see the money. Then enjoy what is left without worry.
  • Quick Mover: Keep a fixed "safe" part that you never touch. Play only with a small part you can afford to lose.
  • Mood Spender: Use a 24-hour rule. If you still want it tomorrow, buy it.
  • Calculator: Stop at one good plan. Start with a small amount this month. Improve it later.
  • Growth Seeker: Before helping others, fix your own safety amount first. Then give with a full heart.

And for everyone: increase your saving a little each year, as the Mint article suggests. Small steps are easier to keep than big promises.

A note for business owners and teams

Business owners mix home money and business money all the time. And every partner and team member brings their own money behaviour to the table. One partner wants to save every rupee. One wants to spend on growth. One wants to keep everyone happy with bonuses.

These fights are rarely about money. They are about different natures (swabhav). When you understand who is the Builder and who is the Quick Mover, you can give the right role to the right person: one guards the cash, one finds growth, one handles people.

Darr nahi, samajh

You don't need fear to manage money. You don't need to feel guilty about the past. You only need to understand yourself.

Know your situation. Know what you expect from your money. Watch your behaviour. Respect the changes in life. Then any good plan, an SIP, a business budget or a family goal, becomes much easier to follow.

Start with your own nature

Are you the Builder, the Comfort Lover or the Quick Mover? The answer is already in your own behaviour.
