Masculine & Feminine vs Male & Female: Every Chart Carries Both
We often hear lines like "Be a man, don't cry" or "She is a girl, she should adjust." We say them so casually that we forget to ask one simple question: are we talking about the body, or about behaviour?
Male and female is the body. It is how you were born.
Masculine and feminine are energies. They are ways of behaving, and every single person has both.

How the SALSA® Method of Astrology looks at this
In the SALSA® Method of Astrology, we read a chart in a very practical way:
- Houses are situations: home, work, money, relationships.
- Planets are behaviours and actions: how you act in those situations.
- Signs are expectations: what you expect from that part of life.
- Transits are modifications: how things shift for a period.
Now notice something. A chart is not "male" or "female." Every chart, of every man and every woman, has all the planets. The Sun is there. The Moon is there. Mars and Venus are both there. So every person has every kind of behaviour inside them. Only the strength and style differ.
Two kinds of energy, one person
Some planetary behaviours are traditionally called masculine energy:
- Sun: taking charge, deciding, standing in front
- Mars: starting, acting, protecting, pushing ahead
- Jupiter: guiding, giving direction, standing for values
Some are traditionally called feminine energy:
- Moon: caring, nurturing, feeling what others feel
- Venus: creating harmony, beauty, comfort and connection
These are only names for energies, not rules for genders. A mother who runs a business uses her Sun and Mars every day. A father who stays up with a sick child is using his Moon. When we say "men should only do this" or "women should only do that," we are asking people to switch off half of their own planets. That never makes a life complete.
A complete life needs all planets working
Think of it like a team. If only the Sun and Mars work, there is a lot of action and decisions, but people around you may feel unheard. If only the Moon and Venus work, there is a lot of care and harmony, but decisions may keep getting delayed.
No planet is bad. No energy is weak. The goal is balance: decide with the Sun, act with Mars, guide with Jupiter, care with the Moon, connect with Venus. The right energy for the right situation.
A simple 5-step self-check
Try this honestly, for yourself:
- Pick one situation. Home, work, money or a relationship. In SALSA® language, this is a house.
- Watch your natural response. Do you first take charge, or do you first take care?
- Ask what is missing. If you always decide, do you also listen? If you always adjust, do you also speak up?
- Check your expectations. Are you expecting yourself or others to behave a certain way only because of being a man or a woman?
- Practise the other energy once this week. One small action is enough: one firm decision, or one gentle conversation.
In the family
A husband who can say "I'm tired, I need support" is not weak; his Moon is working. A wife who handles the bank, the property papers and the tough phone calls is not "too much"; her Sun and Mars are working. Children learn balance by watching both parents use both energies.
At the workplace
Good leaders don't just push targets (Mars) or only keep everyone happy (Venus). They do both. A manager who can give a clear direction and also notice that a team member is quietly struggling gets the best from people.
For business owners and teams
Look at your team by behaviour, not by gender. Who naturally starts new things? Who naturally holds people together? Who brings clarity? Who brings calm? Give roles based on energy and nature, and your team becomes stronger. And as an owner, notice which energy you overuse and which one you have left behind.
The simple truth
Your body is male or female. Your chart is complete. Every planet lives in you, so every energy is available to you. When you stop asking "Is this manly?" or "Is this ladylike?" and start asking "What does this situation need from me?", life becomes lighter and relationships become kinder.
