Why Smart People Fall for 'Digital Arrest' Scams: Fear, Not Intelligence

Why smart people fall for digital arrest scams – fear, not intelligence – SALSA® Method of Astrology

The phone rings. A serious voice says, "This is the police. A parcel in your name has illegal items. Stay on video call. Do not tell anyone. You are under digital arrest."

Within minutes, a smart, educated person is sitting alone in a room, scared, and transferring money.

On 29 October 2026, the Supreme Court of India spoke strongly about this. As reported by LiveLaw, Chief Justice Surya Kant asked how educated people still fall for such scams, and said: "Hit the mobile on the wall and the arrest goes." He noted that the loss to the Indian economy from such frauds this year is about ₹800 crore. The Court also proposed that banks should compensate victims where fraud happens because the bank did not take due care.

The amicus curiae told the Court something very important: fear of arrest drives the victims. Some psychologists even compare it to a kind of hypnosis.

So the real question is not "How can someone be so foolish?" The real question is: "What does fear do to a clever mind?"

Darr nahi, samajh. Let's understand it.

Intelligence is not the issue

Degrees do not protect you from fear. A doctor, an engineer, a business owner, a retired officer: anyone can be caught when fear takes over.

When fear rises, the thinking mind steps back and the reacting mind takes charge. You stop checking. You start obeying. The scammer knows this. That is why they rush you, threaten you and tell you not to speak to anyone.

The answer is not more fear. The answer is knowing how you behave when you are scared.

The SALSA® basics in one minute

The SALSA® Method of Astrology keeps it simple:

  • Houses are situations. A sudden scary call is a situation.
  • Planets are behaviours and actions. How you react in that situation.
  • Signs (rashis) are expectations. What that situation seems to demand from you.
  • Transits are modifications. A moving planet changes a situation for some time.

There is no bad planet. Every planet is a behaviour. A complete life needs every behaviour strong, and in the right place.

Which behaviour shows up when fear comes?

In a fake "arrest" call, different people react in different ways. Look at these behaviours honestly:

  • Saturn: obeying authority. Saturn is discipline and respect for rules. That is a strength. But when someone sounds like authority, a strong Saturn habit may simply obey without asking, "Is this real?"
  • Rahu: reacting to sudden shocks. Rahu behaviour responds to the unexpected and the unknown. A shock call can make this behaviour jump into confusion before the facts are clear.
  • Moon: emotional safety. When the Moon behaviour feels unsafe, the mind panics. Panic makes us want the fear to end quickly, even by paying.
  • Mars: reacting fast. Mars is courage and quick action. Under threat, it can mean arguing or acting at once, instead of stepping back.
  • Mercury: checking facts. Mercury is the behaviour of checking, reading and verifying. This is your best friend in such moments.
  • Jupiter: the wisdom to pause. Jupiter is life philosophy and calm judgement. It reminds you: "Real systems don't work like this. Let me pause."

So who freezes? Who argues? Who obeys? Who over-trusts? Each of us has a natural pattern. When you know yours, fear cannot quietly take the driver's seat.

This is not about your sign or a prediction. Anyone, of any sign, can be targeted. What helps is knowing your behaviour, not fearing your chart.

A simple "Pause and Verify" routine

Keep this routine ready, for yourself and your family:

  1. Pause. Any call that says "don't tell anyone" or "do it right now" is a red flag. Take one slow breath. (Jupiter)
  2. Hang up. You do not need permission to end a call. As the Chief Justice said, the "arrest" ends when the phone is put down.
  3. Tell someone. Call a family member, friend or colleague at once. Scammers win only when you are alone. (Moon)
  4. Call the official number yourself. Don't use the number they give you. Find the real number of the police, bank or agency and call it yourself. (Mercury)
  5. Check, don't trust. The Chief Justice noted that people can check court websites to see if any order is real. Real agencies don't arrest anyone over a video call.
  6. Never move money under pressure. If money is being asked for to "clear your name", stop. That is the scam.

Write these six steps on a card and keep it near the phone of elders at home.

Tips for business owners and teams

Scammers target offices too: fake "officers", fake "CEO" messages, urgent payment requests.

  • Make a team rule. No urgent payment on a call or chat alone. Every unusual payment needs a second person to confirm.
  • Practise the pause. In a team meeting, act out a fake scary call. Let people practise saying, "I'll call you back on the official number."
  • Know your team's nature. Some members obey seniors quickly (Saturn), some react fast (Mars), some panic (Moon). Put a fact-checker (Mercury) and a calm decider (Jupiter) in the payment loop.
  • Talk about it without shame. If someone gets a scary call, praise them for reporting it. Shame makes people hide; openness keeps everyone safe.

What about you?

Think honestly. If such a call came today, what would you do first?

Would you freeze, argue, obey or trust? There is no wrong answer. Knowing it is the first step to changing it.

Darr nahi, samajh

Fear is the scammer's main tool. Understanding is your shield.

Know the situation. Know your behaviour. Strengthen the pause. That is the SALSA® Method of Astrology, in daily life.
